Ruby's Big Chop

I want to help the sick kids that can't grow their own hair

I’ve made the decision to take the big chop and change lives!

Variety – the Children’s Charity supports kids who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.

I will be donating my hair to help provide a wig to someone who has lost their hair, as well as raising vital funds for kids in need.

Every gift, no matter the amount, makes a difference.

Thank you for your support!

The Big Reveal

Saturday 9th Nov

On Wednesday, our beautiful Ruby turned 9 years old which meant that today, we were able to celebrate. There was something else in store for today too though... Ruby's Big Chop!

With full bellies and Birthday cake on the horizon, it was time! Ruby's Aunty Nikki came with her hairdressing scissors in hand and chopped off those luscious locks. Everyone watched on with so many emotions. As Ruby's mother, I think most of them came directly from my heart. Nine whole years of maintaining that beautiful long hair, yet all I see standing before me is a selfless, brave and caring young lady.

We are all overjoyed and filled with an immense amount of pride. Between all of your generous donations and Ruby's courageous chop, we've all taken part in something BIG - something life changing.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you x

Team Effort!

Sunday 20th Oct
Our little superstar, Ruby, has been growing her hair for as long as she can remember. Ruby has always loved having beautiful, long Princess hair. Her hairdresser visits have only ever been for a trim, never taking off more than an inch each time. Although after much deliberation, Ruby has decided she's ready for the big chop.

Ruby's hair will be carefully cut and sent to Variety to be turned into a wig for people who have lost their hair from cancer, alopecia or other medical conditons.

Being granted the privilege of growing hair isn't something a lot of children even begin to consider. But did you know, for someone suffering medical hair loss, the ability to put on a wig is life changing? These wigs are much more than just hair. They are confidence, they are hope, they are freedom, they are joy, they are all of this and much more.

While the thought of cutting off over 30 centimetres of those gorgeous locks is quite daunting, Ruby is also filled with a sense of pride and fulfilment as she knows her hair donation will truly transform someone's life.

We wholeheartedly appreciate all of your generous donations we have received so far. Ruby has unbelievably already reached her $1000 goal!

We do also understand that monetary donations can be impossible for some, especially in this economy. The most important thing is that we're raising awareness and spreading the word that even your hair can make a difference.

The minimum length required for hair donations to be made into a medical-grade wig is 35.5cm/14 inches and the longer the donation the better! There is a huge demand for long-hair medical wigs, especially for children. Donations of ponytails from 20cm are also accepted for possible use in other types of wigs and environmental research.

Would you consider joining Team RubyRaiser's and chopping your hair too?

Whoa, We're Halfway There!

Wednesday 9th Oct

We are absolutely overwhelmed at the amount of support that we have received for Ruby's Big Chop! In just the first 12 hours, we have already reached over half of Ruby's $1000 goal.

This is an amazing achievement and we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has made a contribution so far.

Your donation to Variety - The Children's Charity will help families who can't afford specialist care and equipment for their sick, disadvantaged or disabled children. Variety is there to help children and families when they need it most.

Your donation will truly make a difference. Thank you again for your support!

Thanks for all the support
