I'm doing the Hair with Heart challenge and I need your help!

I’ve made the decision to take on the Hair with Heart challenge and change lives!

Variety – The Children’s Charity supports kids who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.

I will be fundraising to help raise vital funds for Australian kids in need, including kids who are experiencing permanent hair loss from medical conditions such as alopecia and cancer.

Every gift, no matter the amount, makes a difference.

This time around

For the last few years I've been taking care of my hair for the purpose of donating it. I've never had hair this long before and it has been interesting trying to maintain and style it. 

Many people I speak to are shocked by the idea of a woman shaving her head, but at this point in my life it seems like an ordinary thing to do. It's an easy way for me to give back to the community. 

To me, having long hair isn't something I need to be happy or comfortable. And I don't think any of my relationships, friendships, or connections will suffer as a result of shaving my head.

At school in year 11 I shaved my head for the first time for the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave (WGS). It was a great experience, both the shave and the fundraising, with a few other students. Then the following year we supported a few of our peers!

I didn't know about hair donations back then. 

I let my hair grow out for a few years and in 2021 I shaved again for the WGS! This time, I donated my hair; it was just long enough. 

I've never been that attached to my hair, and I like the change of growing it out through different styles and lengths. So it's not much of a sacrifice, but I hope a child in need can benefit from it. And the fundraising component aligns with my values.
