I'm chopping my hair and need your help!
As some of you may know, I have been growing my hair for the past few years so that it can be donated to make wigs for those suffering from medical conditions that cause hair loss. This includes cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy.
We can probably all name someone we know who has fought cancer. The cancer patients that I have had the pleasure of meeting are the strongest people I know. They have hearts of gold, they see life in all its beauty and they have a determination that does not waver. I have such admiration for those who have fought or are still fighting cancer, and for the families that support and love them.
This chop is made in honour of Tash - an incredible young woman who faced cancer twice, had immeasurable strength, was a vibrant confident woman and a treasured friend who fought to the end.
As part of the process of donating hair, Variety asks that we fundraise before the big chop. At first I wanted to skip that step because I didn't want to ask people for money or make a big thing of the chop. I have since learnt that wigs cost families up to $6,000, lasting 1-2 years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth.
Every dollar makes a difference and helps ease the financial burden on the families not just for wigs but other vital equipment for the child in need.
