Rebecca's Hair with Heart challenge

I'm chopping my hair and need your help!

Hi everyone,

Ricky and I have been going on a bit of an adventure recently and exploring ways in which we can help others; mainly children who are helpless to their circumstances.

Our lives haven’t necessarily always been easy, but we still know how much we have and how lucky we are. Our lives have come to a point where they ARE pretty darn good. We have our health, each other, a cute little house with cute little dogs, jobs we enjoy and the best family and friends anyone could dream up.

We have some big things in the works, but for now I have my sights set on a small thing I can do to help out some kids in need. I have booked a date to chop off my locks.

To donate you need to be able to give at least 36cm of hair. I have always been quite fond of my hair and I distinctly remember times where I’ve visited the hairdresser and my appointment for a ‘trim’ ended with me loosing a good chunk of hair. I’d come away feeling less feminine, less pretty and a bit ruffled. I know this is a silly way to feel but hey, I love my hair.

In my life I have come across three people who have lost all of their hair...two of these people were only 5 years olds and in pre-primary. I didn’t know them personally but I was non the less shocked out of my little bubble. These gorgeous little people had a sickness which stole too much from them. They should be focusing on how high they can climb in the tree out front of their house, not dealing with sickness, self-esteem and other such big and unfair issues.

It costs around $6000 to make a real hair wig and they only last for around two years. Variety, the children’s charity, has a Hair with Heart fundraiser. By donating my hair, a child who has lost theirs can smile a little more confidently. Any money raised goes not just towards making wigs, but also to helping children who are disadvantaged, living with a disability or living with chronic illness.

If you have a spare couple of dollars please donate to this cause. I don’t mind going around looking like a fluffy cloud for a few years if it helps some kids get through some difficult times in their lives and possibly puts a smile on a few faces.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you don’t have any spare cash (because let’s face it, spare cash is a myth), I hope this post gives you the chance to slow down and enjoy the little things around you. No matter how stressful life can get still find things to smile about, and if you get the chance share that smile...sometimes it makes all the difference.

Thanks for all the support
