prudence's Big Chop

I've chopped my hair and need your help!

I’ve made the decision to take the big chop and change lives!

Variety – the Children’s Charity supports kids who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.

I have donated my hair to help provide a wig to someone who has lost their hair, as well as raising vital funds for kids in need.

Every gift, no matter the amount, makes a difference.

Time to share the story

Tuesday 2nd Apr

Have you ever had a moment in a conversation when something just clicks and gives you a great idea? I had a conversation with a good friend like that towards the end of last year, and the topic was of all thing’s wigs.

During that chat we bounced around some thoughts about how we appear to others, how feeling like yourself can give us extra ‘protection’ in certain situations, about fitting in and standing out and how both of those options can be a personal choice.

So instead of having my usual annual or thereabouts big trim, I decided that one thing that I could possibly do would be donate my hair to a great cause, to help someone face the world, feel themselves, or increase their confidence a couple of notches.

I have not been one for fancy cuts, styles, colours (not since adulthood anyway), so my lovely hairdresser was a bit surprised to find out just how much of my non coloured, non treated, no heat stressed hair I actually had in my messy bun last week.

Instead of starting a fundraiser, and then waiting to hit a target before taking the chop, I have done it the other way around – taken the chop and now letting people know about it, so my end of things is a certainty, and someone will be benefitting from the chunk of hair we harvested.

And yes, I will be wearing a cap for at least the next few weeks while I get used to the new do!
