I'm chopping my hair (~50cm) and need your help!
Hi everyone!
I will be chopping my hair (~50cm) to Variety Hair
with Heart, a hair donation program that helps supply wigs to children
who have experienced hair loss due to a medical condition.
I personally knew someone during my undergraduate
who has alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease where the immune system
attacks hair follicles, causing patchy hair loss. The self-esteem boost
she got from a wig was immense, to the point
that many of us didn’t know she has the disease until she publicly
posted about it! I have no doubts wigs given to children in this
initiative will have a positive impact!
This has been something that I have always wanted to do, but was unable
to because they do not accept dyed hair. Well!! Ever since the dyed bits
of my hair has been cut off, I’ve been growing mine for years and it’s
finally long enough
for me to donate! My hair is long but a bit on the thin side – hence, I would love to be
able to help fundraise some money so that it can go back to families for
further support. A wig made from real human hair apparently costs $6000, and they
generally last for only 1-2 years!! So affected families are spending in
the thousands to help their children.
I'll be chopping off ~50cm on 12th March 2023.
I originally had a fundraising goal of $200, but due to the overwhelming support from friends and family, I have since raised this to almost $2000! Thank you all so much for your kindness and generosity.
If you could donate just a cup of coffee (or two), that would mean the world to me. All donations over $2 are tax deductible in Australia as Variety is a registered charity! All donations through the website will go direct to them and you will be emailed a receipt.
