I'm chopping my hair and need your help!

I have made the decision to make a difference by cutting and donating my hair to be made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition.

I'll be chopping off (insert how many cms/in you'll be donating - min 35.5cm) on (insert the date of your big chop, or an approximate date or month if you're not sure).

Wigs cost families up to $6,000, lasting 1-2 years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth. By making a donation to Variety - the Children's Charity, you can help provide a wig or other vital equipment to a child in need. Thank you for helping kids in need.

Hi everyone. We are so grateful to all of you that have supported Julian, your generosity and kind words have touched our hearts. I won't lie, once we left the salon today, I looked into Julian's eyes and we had a little breakdown. He knew today was going to be hard for me, as it reminded me of when the nurse had shaved her head because her hair was falling out because of the chemotherapy. This little man's big heart has will lessen the blow for someone else. Thank you again everyone. Lots of love!!!!! The Ortega Family.

Sunday 26th Sep
Today is Julian's grandmother's birthday, she would have turned 70. Gone too soon, but here long enough to teach us what a person with conviction and grit looks like. Headstrong, stubborn, generous, resourceful and someone you could always count on. Julian, shares some of her qualities, and I think this is why he found it so easy to grow his hair for someone else. I know we are all so concerned about how we are perceived by our peers and society as a whole, I am just so proud that he challenged the status quo for a greater  purpose. Here are some pics that show his journey. Thank you in advance for your support, I know that we are all struggling at the moment with the affects of the pandemic and lockdowns, so don't stress. Lots of love from the Ortega family.

Saturday 18th Sep
Julian decided he didn't want to cut his hair until he had to go back to "normal" school. While doing distant education, he enjoyed not having to go to the barber every 6 weeks. It was getting so long, we started to tie it up. Then he saw story on BTN about the work Variety do. He then decided to take better care of his hair so he could donate it. Two years, and here we are. So proud of his determination, and resilience, some kids his age could not handle being confused for a girl, but he took it  in his stride and would always say. I know I am a boy and there is no point getting embarrassed, the kids that will benefit from my hair are proper suffering. Makes my heart hurt and rejoice with happiness at the same time.
