From Lennon with love: Hair today, hope tomorrow

Tuesday 30th Jul
Tomorrow marks a significant day for our family as my 14-year-old son, Lennon, continues his journey of giving back. Lennon first chopped his hair back in October 2021, raising just over $3,000 to support ‘Hair with Heart, Variety Charity’. His passion for making a difference hasn't waned since then.

Lennon has grown his locks out, with the intention to donate his hair once again, where it will be crafted into a wig for children who have lost their hair due to medical conditions. We understand that times are tough for many, so we haven't focused heavily on fundraising this time around. However, Lennon's primary goal remains raising awareness about this cause.

I have wanted long hair for ages, because I love the way it feels and think it looks cool. As a kid with autism, once I make my mind up about something (like having long hair) I rarely change my mind. I was inspired by a classmate who gave a talk about shaving her head to raise awareness for cancer. It made me think about how sick people sometimes loose their hair and need wigs. I felt like I should donate my long hair because I can just grow it back. My mums mother died of cancer before I was born. My best mates mum was really sick with cancer a few years ago. Both of these amazing women used wigs when they lost their hair and it makes me feel proud to be able to donate my hair and also to raise money and awareness.
