I'm chopping my hair and need your help!
I’ve made the decision to take the big chop and change lives! I cut my hair in 2018 and have been growing it since. During that time my grandad and my Uncle have been affected by cancer. My family have also lost my nanny to cancer. And....a young girl Evie Whipps that was only 11 Years old that did physical culture ( which everyone knows is the sport that I do 4 nights a week) passed away from DIPG. It really affected the physie community and I thought this year was the time that I felt was right to donate my hair again to help not only provide a wig for children affected by a medical condition that causes them to lose there hair but to help raise money for variety which helps all sick children and there families.
Variety – the Children’s Charity supports kids who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability.
I will be donating my hair to help provide a wig to someone who has lost their hair, as well as raising vital funds for kids in need.
Every gift, no matter the amount, makes a difference.
Thank you for your support!
My Updates
Posted
Friday 14th Jun We posted my hair off this morning. I have almost reached the $750 mark. Thank you to everyone. We will keep my fund-raiser page open a bit longer for anyone that would like to help me reach my second goal of $750. Can I encourage anyone getting g there hair cut if it is the 35.5cm to donate it Instead of just chopping and throwing it. Hair with heart allow coloured hair. It doesn't go towards medical wigs but it does go to other companies that make wigs and for research. This can also help people in ways which we may never know. I will let you all know once my hair is received. Have a happy Friday and a safe weekend. Keep warm x Share
So exciting
Saturday 8th Jun Well tonight was the night. With the support of my closest friends and family, my beautiful friend Kia have me a gorgeous haircut after mum made my chop. My goal was to be able to donate 50cm and my longest was 56cm.
1 last night with long hair
Friday 7th Jun Tonight is my last night with long hair. My last night needing to plait it so i dont wake up in knots that will cause split ends if I don't brush gently. I have been preparing for tomorrow for the past 5 years. Just hours after my last cut for variety I wanted to do it again. God knew my plans and he continued to help my hair grow and be something that people always saw as a beauty. In my eyes it was a blessing that I could share. I know people often cut there hair and donated it but I am so thankful to everyone that has supported me knowing how important this is to me. There are many reasons why people lose there hair. Some people are well but have alopecia and others are not so well. No one deserves to be stared at and judged. No one deserves to have people looking at them when they are feeling vulnerable wondering what is wrong with them. If my hair can bless one person of that lack of judgement, that lack of stare, and that feeling of having not lost a part of themself I will continue to smile. There are so many differences in society. It could be that you or i are not the norm. In todays society we are learning to accept everyone. I don't see difference as a normality, I see it as being kind. So I challenge you Next time you see someone different to yourself maybe smile and say hello. Don't stare. You could make kindness be the difference to what they are going through.
Maddy DIPG warrior
Saturday 25th May So most people that are following my blog will see that I have booked in a date now for my chop date 8/6. For those that want to follow online I will go live at 530pm. I will keep you posted from which account as I don't have everyone on social media. More than likely Ebony's as she is a social butterfly 🦋 LOL. Every day I wake up and it's the first thing on my mind. We go about living our lives day by day sometimes unaware of what other families are going through. I was sad to hear of a little DIPG warrior Maddy who had passed away last week at only 9 years old. She was operated on by Charlie Teo and was under the care of Westmead children's hospital. Despite her being so sick her mission for the world was for people to be happy. Her smile lit up the room whenever she spoke. She wanted people to be kind. This week I think of her family who had to say good bye to her but bravely stood in front of the world and said she had a good life because she was always happy. Maddy ......I hope I can make someone smile with my donation. Rest in peace sweet girl. Share
Wow thank you
Friday 24th May Thank you to everyone that has sponsored me. I have met the target of $200 by almost double and am really grateful to everyone. It costs $750 to be able to make a wig and have it donated. By growing my hair so long it will help go straight towards a full wig so now I am super keen to help meet that target of being able to have it made and given to a person that really needs a pick me up. Someone that has lost there hair due to a medical condition or medical treatment. God blessed me with a gift that I can help others with. When a person struggles physically, they also struggle mentally so if I can create that 1 smile and make a difference from something I have been blessed with, i can only be grateful that I personally do not need to go through the hardship that that person is enduring. Thank you for helping me get there. Share
My page has begun
Monday 20th May After pestering my mum for months to help organise and set up my journey to do my big cut, finally we have mastered the technical issues. I last cut my hair in 2018 and I have been growing it since so that i can help make a difference in the world. As a teenager I guess it would be easy for others my age to understand the pressures of society to keep up with today's fashion but i realise that God has blessed me with something so much more that popularity and social benefits when I can share something of mine that could change the way a person feels, which may intern help them either heal mentally or physically. My hair can be the strength given to someone to help them get through there day. If I can make 1 person smile from what I believe is a blessing given to me then I will.continue to smile in sharing my gifts. I am so excited. Thank you to everyone that takes the time to read my blogs. As the next few weeks come closer and I set a date as the one I have shared is just a tentative date I will share some stories about those that inspire me. ShareThanks for all the support
