We donated our hair. Now we need YOUR help to support children in need!

5 years and 290cm for a good cause!
Our “Hair with Heart” journey started in November 2015, when our mum decided to donate her 75cm long hair for children with Alopecia Areata. Even being so young (with 5 years of age at that time) we decided to follow her steps and also grow our hair for the children in need.

Our mum was very surprised and proud about our interest and empathy towards this cause and our decision to do the same. Obviously she thought, we will change our minds in the meantime, but no, we didn’t.

Being a boy and having long hair is not easy. Often you are taken for a girl, and hair care takes longer, e. g. platting your hair before school, drying after shower or swimming. We remember being upset, because we had to explain to younger children that we are boys, we just have long hair for a reason. Despite all those little “challenges” we never changed our minds and kept growing our hair for this important cause. To show more empathy and solidarity for the girls and women with hair loss due to medical treatment or sickness for her second donation our mum decided to shave her hair.  

Now 5 years later, we are so happy and our mum is saying: “I’m so proud of my boys for being so resilient and patient for all those years. We were able to dedicate our hair for specialised wigs to give other children more confidence and self-esteem”.  

Since then each of us had donated our hair twice with the collected total length of 290cm. Specialised wigs cost families up to $6,000, lasting 1-2 years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth. To help those families to provide their children with a wig or to support children in need with other vital equipment we would like to ask for YOUR help and donations.

Boys, my son (4yo now) had long hair for 2 years and I was proud of him for doing what he wanted and keeping it long despite many people calling him a girl and asking why he wouldn't get a haircut. Your story touched my heart, well done for deciding to follow your amazing mum's idea and keeping it strong and focused. You've already done much more than so many people out there!
