Annabelle's Hair with Heart challenge

I'm chopping my hair and need your help!

I have made the decision to make a difference by cutting and donating my hair to be made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition.

I'll be chopping off (insert how many cms/in you'll be donating - min 35.5cm) on (insert the date of your big chop, or an approximate date or month if you're not sure).

Wigs cost families up to $6,000, lasting 1-2 years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth. By making a donation to Variety - the Children's Charity, you can help provide a wig or other vital equipment to a child in need. Thank you for helping kids in need.

My Updates

My hair donation journey

Monday 18th Jul
Hello. My name is Annabelle Iacoban and I am 11 years old. I am very happy and proud to say that someone is wearing 38 cm of my hair right now!

Now you might be wondering why I cut my hair.
My journey started around a few months ago. I was informed that some fundraisers where happening at my school and if I wanted to join in, then was the right time. So I thought "Well I have always wanted to do a fundraiser." I brought the idea up at home.

My mum suggested that I donate my hair, since I wanted to give it a little trim as well. At first I was like "No way!" Then I realised that "Hey, I already have so much and someone is suffering from a medical condition which leads to their hair falling off. Plus, I wouldn't have to shave it because I had so much and enough to donate anyway."

I agreed to donating my hair if we found a reliable charity. So my mum and I started researching some charities and came across Variety Hearts Children's Charity - Hair with Heart. We read some stories and blogs like mine and decided this was the charity for us.

I emailed a staff from Variety, telling them about my thoughts and we discussed with one of my teachers from school and we decided that I could also raise some funds for the charity.

I managed to raise $200 inside of school and $800 outside of school. In total I raised $1000 and donated 38 cm of my hair. If you're planning to donate your hair and you are not sure if you should or not, go for it, it is such and amazing feeling and think about it: you are helping someone who has suffered enough. Time to end that.
